Haley grew up in Saskatoon, where she spent her summers exploring lakes, searching for insects, frogs, and fish. Her early fascination with nature naturally led her to pursue a degree in Applied Plant Ecology and Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan. In her final year as an undergraduate, she conducted a thesis on freshwater microcystins, sparking her interest in water quality and aquatic insects.

In 2021, Haley joined Troutreach after gaining experience as a benthic macroinvertebrate technical assistant with the Water Security Agency. Over the following summers, she has assisted on various projects within Troutreach, and this year marks the beginning of her research initiative.

Currently, Haley is completing an Education Degree, with plans to specialize in outdoor and science education. Her current project focuses on bridging research conducted in Troutreach with elementary students. The project aims to connect scientific research on Saskatchewan's insect biodiversity and water quality with the outcomes of the Saskatchewan Curriculum. By integrating local studies of land and water bodies, the project seeks to enhance students’ understanding of ecological systems, and entomology, foster scientific inquiry, and inspire potential career paths.
