Greg grew up in Wakaw, SK, and developed an interest in nature from an early age. He spent his summers outdoors exploring Saskatchewan's lakes, which led him to the Environmental Biology program at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2023, a course in aquatic ecology and a summer work term as a surface water quality assistant at the Water Security Agency solidified Greg's interest in lakes, rivers, and wetlands. His honours project measured the nutrient content of aquatic corixid insects. Greg earned his undergraduate degree in 2024 and soon after began a graduate program through the School of Environment and Sustainability. His graduate research focuses on using molecular techniques to study native freshwater mussels in the Lower Qu'Appelle River. He aims to identify juvenile mussels attached to fish to understand their distribution and host-parasite relationships. He also hopes to learn whether the threatened mapleleaf mussel is in the Qu’Appelle River. In his spare time, Greg enjoys sports, good music, and keeping aquarium fish, especially unusual catfish. Most importantly, he loves spending time outdoors!
